Marguarite Clark is a seasoned public relations veteran with nearly 20 years of hospitality PR and related marketing experience. She started her own firm in 2005, specializing in high-end resort/hotel, spa and restaurant clients.
Based in Laguna Niguel, Clark represents some of Southern California’s most exciting luxury travel and dining destinations, among them: San Diego’s Grand Del Mar Resort & Spa and award-winning restaurant Addison (Chef William Bradley); the newly modernized Palm Springs icon Riviera Resort & Spa; and Laguna Beach’s critically acclaimed restaurant Sapphire Laguna (Chef/Owner Azmin Ghahreman) and specialty shop Sapphire Pantry. Her client list also includes RH restaurant at Andaz West Hollywood, Noble House Hotels & Resorts, Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club, Redondo Beach; and Miracles for Kids, a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of children with life-threatening illnesses.
Since opening her own firm, she has successfully launched the independently owned and operated Grand Del Mar and its signature dining venue Addison, which have a slew of awards and much critical acclaim. The resort was listed on Conde Nast Traveler magazine’s 2008 “Hot List,” earning praise as a “Top New Hotel” and “Top New Spa,” and received rave reviews from publications such as the Los Angeles Times, Travel + Leisure Golf, Robb Report Vacation Homes, Riviera and the San Diego Union-Tribune. In addition, Addison, now San Diego’s only AAA Five Diamond, Mobil Five-Star restaurant, has attained status as a culinary powerhouse, with kudos in high-profile publications such as Food & Wine, Esquire, Wine Spectator, Los Angeles Times and Gayot.
Clark was also instrumental in the successful repositioning of the former Four Seasons Newport Beach to The Island Hotel, a beautifully refurbished AAA Five Diamond urban hotel owned and operated by The Irvine Company. Past clients and project work also included Idaho’s luxurious Whitetail Club & Resort (now The Shore Lodge), Cap Juluca in the Caribbean, and the American Cheesemaker Awards.
As corporate director of public relations for Montage Hotels & Resorts, she opened Montage Resort & Spa Laguna Beach and its signature restaurant Studio (Chef James Boyce) in 2003, and helped launch the hotel company into the marketplace. In this capacity, she also oversaw public relations and lobbying efforts for Montage Beverly Hills during a heated citywide effort to gain public sanctioning of the project. Working closely with the development team, Clark played a key role in helping to obtain approval by residents in a contentious and controversial voter referendum. She also assisted with other Montage development and acquisition announcements.
Prior to Montage, she was regional director of public relations for Starwood Hotels & Resorts, overseeing public relations strategies and programs for The Phoenician, Scottsdale’s premier luxury resort, and The Wigwam Resort, an historic property outside of Phoenix.
She was also regional director of public relations for Loews Hotels, supervising public relations, special events and community outreach for Loews Coronado Bay Resort and Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. She also served in a similar capacity for the Bel-Air Hotel Company, where she helped reposition the 120-room L’Auberge Del Mar Resort & Spa, as well as several boutique properties on the West Coast of Mexico.
A member of the Public Relations Society of America, Clark is also a certified sommelier and enjoys cooking, entertaining and yoga.
